TMI Tuesday – Overrated Or Underrated?

Overrated or underrated? Why?

1. Birkin bags

I’ve never heard of these before so I had to look them up, but yeah, though I just know them as satchels. and I’d say underrated. I have a satchel, and they’re amazing when you have a tendency to take everything with you, it’s just that my everything tends to me very practical things, rather than make-up and toileteries. I was talking about this question with Mr Wolfie last night and we were joking about the things you can expect to find in my handbag, mobile phone, keys, notepad, at least three pens, miniatures of the perfumes I wear (easier than carrying a big bottle if you need a top-up!), emergency inflatable dinghy, tyre puncture kit, portable defibrillator.. OKay, so the last three are obviously a joke, but yuo catch my drift. I’m terrible, even when I should be enjoying myself, my head is still thinking about every possible eventuality! I could he a bodyguard or something, I clock where the fire exits are even before I sit down in the cinema!

2. iPhone

Waaay overrated. I’ve never had an iPhone, and I’ve never felt the appeal, either. I have a Samsung A40 and I love it, the camera quality is just heavenly. It does everything I need it to do, I don’t need it to be trendy. If it wasn’t Samsung, I’d probably go for a Nokia because they’re known for their robustness, which is a godsend with a clumsy oaf like me. Basically, whatever everyone is doing, I’m probably going to do something else. I do not follow trends, not one iota.

Well, okay, except TMI Tuesday. but hey, you gotta be sociable sometimes!

3. Writing a book and self-publishing

Ugh.. maybe overrated? I’ve been meaning to, because I want to do something that maybe makes blogging viable for me, but honestly, after the day I had yesterday, I think I’ve accidentally found my potential, maybe, in selling tropical fish. I raise and sell Endlers Livebearers, and I get a lot of positive feedback for my fish. I love them, and I’m maybe even slightly neurotic about the health of my tanks. I keep meaning to write a book, but it seems like something that everyone does these days and I don’t want to do what everyone else is doing, just because everyone else is doing it. I firmly believe that you should only write a book if you think you have a story to share, and although the ideas are there bubbling away, I need to be convinced that anyone would read it, or would be interested in reading it. So far, I don’t think I’m that different from anyone else. I’m not a celebrity, I’m just an ordinary woman living in South West England.

On that note, if you’re interested in a British woman trying out American road trip snacks or answering American questions about life in the UK, do check back on Thursday 😉

4. Scruffy, short beards

Short beards are hugely underrated, but scruffy? No, overrated. I go weak for short, trimmed beards. Freaking love ’em. Maybe it’s growing up with men who took a lot of pride in their beards? I don’t know. Both my Grandfather and father would spend time maintaining their beards, so maybe. I cut my husband’s hair and trim his beard once because we were in financial hardships, he’s not been to the barber since. By the time lockdown came around, my husband was sporting one of the best haircuts of all. It’s a very sexy, intimate and connected thing to do and he does get good feedback for my handiwork.

5. Hoodies

Vastly underrated. I have not less than 5 of them, two navy blue, one black, one fluffy black. When you’re an outdoorsy type like I am, trust me, hoodies are life.

6. HIIT workouts

Overrated to the point of being dangerous. Mr Wolfie started doing HIIT and I did some reading into them, but for your body, they’re actually dangerous and not more beneficial to a more steadily paced workout. They also put more stress on you, mentally, and who wants to be stressed when you work out? I love a good, controlled, focused workout, personally.

7. Boxer briefs

Overrated? Underrated? I’m undecided. It all depends on the guy. Mr Wolfie has lovely shapely thighs, a nice ass and.. well.. let’s just say that they suit him well, shall we?

Bonus: Avocado toast. Overrated or underrated?

Overrated. Never tried it, never felt the appeal. I can’t justify something with all of those air miles. The only thing toast should have on it is butter and baked beans, jam, or honey.

Alright lovelies, I hope you enjoy this post and have a wonderful Tuesday afternoon/evening.

Until next time!

Be Bold, Be Bright, Be Beautiful,

Helen xx

  1. I agree. I’ve never tried avocado toast and never wanted to. I have no doubt it tastes great but everyone seems mesmerised by it. And I’m actually surprised that everyone is writing books. Maybe it’s just because your friends and the people that you come in contact with are in a different age bracket to my friends. Writing books seem rare to me.

    1. That’s really strange. So many people my age seem to be writing books, even my neighbour has talked about it. I know the approach I want to go at and it’s nothing 50 Shades Of Grey-esque even in spite of my personal interests, but I still don’t know that anyone would read it. I think so many people aspire to be novelists and bestsellers and it’s a very competitive market. Don’t get me wrong, I still dream of owning my own house and writing from my own farmhouse but It sort of feels like unless you’re cool and popular, nobody really cares about your book. I have people who are inspired by me, but I’m not popular and as such, I don’t know if anyone would read it. Maybe in the new year, or maybe even later than that I will actually get around to sitting down and penning out (pun fully intended) some ideas. For now, I have a whole bunch of formal letters to worry about.
